Some of us remember (and many of us lived through) Delta’s massive summer debacle. There were 7,000 flight cancellations that impacted 1.3 million passengers globally. The cost? $500 million. Personally, my family was delayed in Los Angeles for an extra three (3) days! According to Delta, CrowdStrike is to blame. The massive disruption is under investigation by United States Department Of Transportation (USDOT).
What is CrowdStrike? A company that produces software that protects Windows computers from malware and cyber attacks. Delta uses Crowdstrike’s software to monitor it’s systems.
And what led to Delta’s systems crashing? A faulty software update from CrowdStrike.
The interesting point is here that Delta is certainly not Crowdstrike’s only customers. So why then did the #deltadebacle on the surface appear to bring the #1 airline to a hault and not other companies? Well, CrowdStrike is asking that very question and the cloud compant decied toi strike back (pun intended!) with a lawsuit of its own. So now, both companies are suing each other!
A judge in Fulton County, Georigia will hear this case. #popcorn
