Let me first say, you need to be in New York to advantage of a new partnership between Macy’s and Etsy; although, if successful you may find this in more cities in the near future. In case you’re not familiar with Etsy, it’s a place where independent retailers, mom and pop shops or just regular individuals can sell their handmade crafts. (I actually bought the monogrammed robes for my bridal party from a retailer on Etsy).
“Macy’s team of buyers hand-selected more than 50 products for the launch of the new Etsy Shop. The assortment, which features stationery, jewelry and homewares, also includes five unique items designed exclusively for Macy’s from Etsy shops Sol del Sur, Meera Lee Patel, and Modern Mud. The Etsy Shop will be refreshed with new products every six to eight weeks, focusing on a different theme during each selling cycle.”
It’s not uncommon for mega retailers to partner with smaller shops to lure in (younger) customers, at at time when brick-and-morter stores struggle to get customers in the door (Fortune). Nordstrom (my new fav) sells items from TopShop, Madewell and Bow & Drape – three smaller retailers that sell trendy items. For the meantime, if you’re in NYC at Macy’s Hearld Square, be sure to visit the Esty Pop-up Shop.
